Ventilation training in Spain

Formation can padroLast January, the LEADER team trained 12 trainers at the Can Pedro training centre in Spain in the various positive-pressure ventilation methods:

    - Offensive ventilation : Allows direct action on smoke and fire to affect its behaviour and reduce its size,
    - Defensive ventilation : Protects areas of the spread of fire, smoke and hot gases,
    - Combined ventilation : Also known as operational ventilation, this technique combines defensive and offensive ventilation and is especially used in buildings.

The effectiveness of offensive ventilation proved  to be particularly popular with the trainees because the technique allows:
    - rapid, controlled evacuation of smoke and hot gases,
    - improved visibility,
    - reduced temperatures.

This technique therefore enhances firefighters' safety, which in turn makes their task easier.
